Attributes Valued by Employers in the IT Industry



 
An attribute, is a quality which is needed by an employee, for them to get a job in a certain industry for example IT. Some important attributes are beneficial, when carrying out a specific task in the industry. Within the IT industry a lot attributes will be need and they fall in 3 categories which are
  • Industry Specific Attributes
  • General Attributes
  • Skills based attributes
 Industry Specific Attributes
 
Working procedures - Working procedures are the rules and regulations, which are set by the business and these rules, have to be followed by the employees, if not then they have to face disciplinary action. It is very important to understand working procedures, as it is valued in the IT industry this is because then there will be a much more of productive and safer environment, with the importance of people following the rules.

This meaning that you would need to know about the programs, software and the hardware’s you will be working with. Having technical knowledge is valued in the IT industry, because it shows that you have the education to carry your job in a professional manner.
 
Knowledge of Health and Safety – to have some kind of knowledge of health and safety issues is important, as all the employees must be trained to ensure that they are aware of all health and safety requirements, of being around computer. Health and safety is valued in the It industry, to make the employees aware if anything ever happen they know what do, for e.g. to be aware of the surroundings and any kind of loose cables, and to know what to do by reporting this issue.
 
Security – security is another important attribute, as the staff in the IT industry would need to understand on how to use smart passwords, when logging on to a computer network and having the knowledge, on not give their password, to someone who is not part business and even in the business. This is valued in the IT industry as it is important for the employees to stay safe with in their work place. By the employees being professional and using the Internet in the correct way, this can limit viruses entering into the company networks.
 
General Attitudes
 
Independence - independence is an important factor for employees, within their workforce. Employers will expect the employees to be able to work in a team and alone, by them working independently this will show your employer, of how much of a trustworthy and reliable employee you are, this valued by the IT industry. Independence is also an important factor for the business as well, as it shows the business is organised, as their employees know what they are doing and are able to lead task on their own.

Self- motivation is valued in the IT industry as you need to be able to push yourself to complete the task that you have been given and to be able to push yourself, so you are able to reach higher and to reach your targets and aims that you have set yourself.
 
Determination – employers value dependability very highly, because it shows the business that you can be trusted. For example, if you are a dependable employee this means that work will be delegated to you by the managed and this will make the business run a lot smoother as the work is being done by a trust worth employee and that employee will meet the deadline.
 
Leadership – this is an important management skill, as leadership involves the skill of motivating a group of people and to achieve some kind of goal. With the leadership skill, you need to have the right kind of vision, as you are being held responsible for various parts of the job. A good group leader should know its group weaknesses and strengths of each member; so then they are able to help them, with a task they might find difficult. This skill is valued in the It industry, as you would be given many difficult task such as fixing a computer, so you would need to tell your team exactly what to do.

When a business has an employee who has high confidence levels, this gives the business a strong image; a confident employee will be able to speak clearly to its customers. For example, if the employee gives the employer to present a presentation about computer components. Then the employee should be able to present it clearly with confidence telling the audience about each component and explaining it properly.
 
 
 
Skills Based Attributes
 
Organisational skills – organisational skills are very important within the IT industry, as you need to be able manage your entire task that you have been given to do. In a industry like IT these skills are valued by employers, as they are very strict on meeting deadline, so they need to make they hire the correct employee which will be able to complete task and meet deadlines. For example if you are given a number of tasks, you would need to be able to organise yourself, by priotizing yourself, to make sure you meet deadlines for each task.
 
Communication skills – communication is an important aspect, for the business because communication skill does not only include speaking it also includes showing and listening, to what others have to say. Employers will be looking for an employee that shows positive body language, towards the employers and employee and not to give any negative feel to the business.

Employers would normally do team working activities, so then this would result in a much more friendly workforce, as they would be able to work together and not cause any problems amongst themselves. This is valued by the IT industry; because by having team spirit motivates the employees so then they are able to perform better as a team.
 
Time management – time management is a skill, which is needed by any kind of industry. This skill, directly relates to organisational skill, as you need to be organised, so you are able to complete tasks on time. If you get your work done on time and even before the deadline, this gives a good reputation to your employer and this valued by the employer as it shows them your motivation towards the job.

For example if an employee sends a letter to employee, which has been badly written or with incomplete sentences, then this will show the employer that you are not capable of doing the task that you have been as to do.
